The trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s new movie There Will Be Blood dropped yesterday, and let’s just say I’m more than excited. P.T. is responsible for three stunning films over the last decade (Magnolia, Boogie Nights, and Punch Drunk Love), so, naturally, I was elated to find out his new teaser has finally dropped.
There Will Be Blood is based on an Upton Sinclair novel entitled, “Oil!.” I’ve never read the black gold salute; however, turning the pages of his muckraking classic “The Jungle” was more than enough to instill the fear of God inside me. Stephen King only wishes he could capture that much horror and sensationalized emotions.
Blood follows the life of an oil tycoon who, much like Jed Clampett, lucks his way into a blackened fortune. The town soon becomes abuzz with opportunities and renewed life. This captures the attention of a charismatic man of the cloth (played by the silent brother in Little Miss Sunshine). At some point, drama will develop, and people will probably get real greedy. Morally questionable preachers and money-grubbing bastards: it’s the epitome of what America was founded on!
Here’s a copy of the brand-spankin’ new trailer. It’s a little bit dark and avant-garde, but then again, so are all of the best movies.
