Schwentke Films Che Guevera's Buddy The life of William Morgan was essentially a high-stakes chess game. Dropping out of college in the mid 50s, he fled to Cuba for what appears to be absolutely no good reason at all. Brandishing a golden gun and his trademark golden hair, he traipsed through the jungles, organizing sneak attacks in an attempted coup against dictator General Fulgencio Batista. As the overthrow plans picked up steam, he formed a partnership with Che Guevera and Fidel Castro; ultimately, the triumvirate proved successful and they won a near total victory.

The celebration was short lived though, as Morgan began financing and selling guns to Castro’s enemies after a fallout over the new dictator’s support of the USSR. Naturally, Castro soon caught wind of the American’s plans and reportedly was so enraged that he led the firing squad himself.

If ever a man’s life deserved its own film, it is William Morgan, and according to Variety, he's about to get the full Hollywood treatment. Robert Schwentke is signed on to direct. The movie will be based on an Alan Shetterly novel entitled “The Americano: Fighting For Freedom In Castro’s Cuba, An Untold Story.” Mark Bailey will adapt from page to screen.

I’m actually really excited about this film. There’s no reason why this shouldn’t be one of next year’s best films. Principal shooting has yet to begin; so, don’t look for this until sometime next year.
