Josh Brolin is in a position to be really, really picky about his roles-- he's blown up in the last year, with memorable lead parts in No Country for Old Men, W., and coming up next, Milk. But that still doesn't really explain why he's waffling on the lead role in Jonah Hex, which sounds like it could be one of the coolest comic book adaptations to come as part of this recent boom.
Collider reported on what Brolin said about the role during a roundtable for Milk. While he's definitely up for the role, Brolin says he's not so certain he'll be taking it. "I think Jonah Hex is a really, really interesting story. I think it would be risky also, which I like, and I don't know if it's the thing to do. Got me all fucked up now."
The guy sounds seriously torn about where to take his character next, which I guess you can understand-- he's pretty much on top of the world, and I imagine he has offers coming from every direction. He even asked the journalists in the room what they think about Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the directors of Crank who will be tackling Jonah Hex as well. After being told that Crank was "fucking awesome" by some journalists, Brolin responded, " They are good people. They're very good people. Okay, I gotta go. I'm very interested in this."
Now you know the people who were in that room will totally take credit if Brolin decides to do the role. It's hard to imagine who would be better as the ultimate badass Western hero-- like Llewellyn Moss sent to the Old West-- so I'm hoping Brolin sticks with it. Thanks for making the case for the rest of us, L.A. journalists!
