The first trailer for Richard Kelly’s sophomore effort Southland Tales is finally here! So what’s the movie about? The end of the world and time travel. Yep, Kelly’s revisiting the same stuff he covered in Donnie Darko, only this time he’s doing it by mimicking Darren Aronofsky. The trailer makes his movie look like the Richard Kelly version of Requiem for a Dream, complete with multiple stories told using an ensemble cast of high-profile actors.

Still, it’s Richard Kelly and Donnie Darko is one of the coolest cult films of the past ten years. Critics who have seen Southland Tales have destroyed it, but since then Kelly has supposedly been hard at work fixing whatever it is everyone seemed to think is wrong with it. Give Southland a chance. The trailer isn’t without high points. The Rock may finally getting a chance to use that great comedic timing in something other than total drivel and John Lovitz looks pretty good as a blonde.
