If you’ve yet to hear about
Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire then get ready, because it’s about to blow up!
Slumdog, a story about a poor Indian boy who gets a shot at winning millions in a TV game show, swept the British Independent Awards this past Sunday walking away with three prizes including the Best British Independent Film, Best Director and Most Promising Newcomer categories.
The latter going to young actor Dev Patel who played the lead role of Jamal.
It doesn’t stop there, Slumdog has been nominated for five International Press Satellite Awards including Best Motion Picture in the drama category, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Original Song for “Jaiho” by A.R. Rahman and Gulzar, Best Film Editing and was named one of the top ten films of the year.
The big night will take place on Dec. 14 at Century City’s InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles.
It’ll be interesting to see if this international praise carries over stateside when it comes to the Oscar noms?
If the Toronto Film Festival is any indicator of what to expect, then Boyle's chances are looking good having won the coveted Cadillac People's Choice Award, voted for by film fans, at TFF this past September.
