Captain Blood is such an amazing title that it's surprising the 1935 Errol Flynn swashbuckler hasn't been pegged for a remake sooner. And luckily the remake we're scheduled to get, to be directed by Philip Noyce, won't take the title and toss it onto some horror concept-- at least as far as screenwriter John Brownlow is concerned.
He's the latest person to join the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the writer of the 2003 biopic Sylvia and a handful of other movies in production. This doesn't seem like it's the kind of movie that's really about the screenplay-- more about the shirtless swordfights-- so I'm not too concerned about some inexperienced writer coming in and ruining everything. The bigger question is how to find someone to replace Errol Flynn, now that Cary Elwes is a bit too long in the tooth to pull off the role.
