The Stone Gets Even More Romanced

The 80s were really the best time for adventure movies-- Goonies, Back to the Future, Indiana Jones and The Princess Bride, to name a few, really knew how to throw characters into a wacky plot and make it a best. With the exception of the Lord of the Rings movies, we haven't had too many of them in this decade. But in the grand Hollywood tradition of remaking everything that didn't flop, one of the 80s classics may be coming back to teach us a thing or two about adventure.

Romancing the Stone, which made stars out of Kathleen Turner, Michael Douglas and Danny DeVito, is gearing up for a remake at Fox. The Hollywood Reporter says that Daniel McDermott, who recently co-wrote Eagle Eye, has the colossal task of writing the new screenplay. And since the original took place in Colombia, now better known for drug runners and hostages held by rebels, you have to imagine some serious changes will be made this time around.

As much as I usually hate remakes, I'm all about a return of the adventure movie genre, even if it takes an uninspired remake to get things started. Kids these days want to wake up one day and be a superhero, but we need to teach them that it's even better to find yourself swashbuckling your way through a forest.
