Several different sites are currently reporting that Rose McGowan has been confirmed in the role of Barbarella, for a remake of the same-named Jane Fonda movie being done by Robert Rodriguez. What no one seems somewhat hazier is exactly where this confirmation came from. Well here you go. As far as we can tell it came from Elle.com, and their confirmation isn’t so much a confirmation as a piece of gossip from an anonymous source.

What I’m saying here is that the confirmation of McGowan’s casting as Barbarella can’t really be confirmed. Elle.com is the online appendage of a fashion magazine, and normally not exactly the place you go for reliable casting information. Even if they were, they’re using an anonymous source which could pan out to be anything. There is no confirmation. Much as I hope this turns out to be true (McGowan would be perfect and if you saw Planet Terror you know Rodriguez will burn the screen up), it’s just the same old rumor that started floating around last month being regurgitated by another source.
