As we noted just yesterday, material belonging to Steven Spielberg’s production company, including still pictures taken on the Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull set, was stolen some time in September. Now comes word that Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested at least one of the alleged thieves. The sheriff’s spokesman says that on Tuesday afternoon an unnamed man was booked on suspicion of receiving stolen property after a sting operation.
The officers posed as buyers of the stolen pictures after they had been offered for sale to entertainment Web sites. The sheriff’s department has not released the name of the man arrested since they are hoping to scoop up the other people involved. It’s not clear how much of the missing stuff, including pictures, documents, and computers, were recovered during the arrest.
I can’t imagine why someone would steal something and then send out mass emails asking for someone to buy the stolen goods. It seems like a recipe for getting the cops involved and ending up wearing the silver bracelets, which is exactly what happened. A picture of Harrison Ford might be worth something, but not 3-5 years and time off for good behavior.
