Singers were serenaded
at New York elementary school on Tuesday; roll out dates for joint
tour.

Want to make Jennifer Lopez cry? Sing to her. That's what a
group of schoolchildren in New York's Bronx borough discovered on
Tuesday when the singer and her husband, Marc Anthony, popped by PS
36 Unionport School in Castle Hill to kick off their upcoming joint
tour, which starts Friday. To welcome the singers to the school —
which was across the street from where Lopez grew up on Blackrock
Avenue — the children serenaded the couple, who were overtaken with
emotion at the gesture.
"I was like, 'Did you see me?' I was crying like a baby," Lopez
laughed. "We were both crying like babies."
"I was a hot mess," Anthony said.
"He had glasses on, but me? I was like, 'Eeeee,' " Lopez said.
"I was trying to hold it back, too."
Lopez and Anthony are donating part of the proceeds from their
19-date trek to ING's school-fitness program for kids, Run for
Something Better, with funds to go to select schools with high
Latino enrollment. The couple also tied orange shoelaces around
their wrists to demonstrate they're "tied" to supporting fit kids,
and fighting obesity and diabetes.
"We look at you and we see ourselves," Lopez told the children.
"I can remember doing little songs at school and being onstage and
dreaming of great things. And seeing all of you so full of beauty
and life and energy, and knowing how far you can go, it still
touches my heart."
Lopez is trying to go even farther herself — to begin with, by
going on tour. In all her years of recording, this marks her first
outing. "I've tried to plan a tour so many times," she previously
told MTV News in 2005, when
she announced she was gearing up for a trek (which didn't
materialize). "Because of the fact that I work in film, it's been
hard. It's been hard to map out that amount of time to really do it
right."
Doing it right — or doing it well, as she sings in her new
single — means balancing her new album, Brave, out October
9, with her back catalog.
"I'm going to do a couple of new songs, obviously from this
album, and also from my Spanish album [Como Ama una
Mujer], and then of course my old, kinda standard hits," Lopez
said. "This is the first time, so a lot of my fans haven't gotten
to see me at all perform these songs, so I'm going to try to pick
all the best ones that they want to see. But you never know."
"It's just a monster show," Anthony said. "As we creep up to it,
just in a couple days, that's when I'm getting the magnitude of
this, you know what I'm saying? I sit back and watch her set, and
it's exciting. I'm so proud of her."
"Just for us to be able to do this together, to both be separate
artists who have our own kind of, like, songs and repertoire, or
whatever you want to call it, our own thing going on, to come
together like this, everything takes on a different meaning," Lopez
said. "Like what he said about rehearsals, in the numbers, in the
lyrics of the songs, all of a sudden, everything's heightened. I
don't think we even expected it. As we were putting it together, it
was this intangible thing, like, 'What's happening here?'
I just can't wait for people to see it. It's going to be
intense."
