Tron 2.0 is in full force with the casting process underway.
House co-star
Olivia Wilde and
Beau Garrett are the first to sign on for Tron 2.0, a sequel to the 1982 Disney cult classic, reports Reuters.
Jeff Bridges starred in the original as “Clu”, a hacker who was literally abducted into the world of a computer and forced to participate in gladiatorial games where his only chance of escape was the help of a heroic security program.
Reuters reports that the new movie is acting as a "next chapter." Plot details are being guarded closely, but Wilde will play a worker in the virtual world who tries to help fight Master Control Program, the villainous intelligence protocol that was the nemesis in the original. Garrett (Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer) will play a siren in the virtual world.
The male lead has not been cast but we don’t expect Bridges to make his return after meeting up with him at a press junket for Iron Man earlier this year. At that time he had not been approached -- but, you never know.
Joseph Kosinski is directing; Steven Lisberger, who co-wrote and directed the original film, is one of the producers.
The original Tron is remembered for its sci-fi gladiator-style battles and groundbreaking special effects. Imagine what they will come up with 26 years laters!
Tron 2.0 is aiming at a spring shoot.
