J.K. Rowling's The Tales of Beedle the Bard has been selling at a rate of two copies a second around the world ... and every cent is being donated.
The book, a slim collection of five stories set in the world of Rowling's creation Harry Potter, hit shelves on Dec. 4 to raise funds for the Children's High Level Group (CHLG), a charity co-founded by Rowling to help vulnerable children across Central and Eastern Europe.
As of yesterday, it's sold 2.6 million copies worldwide, raising $6.5 million, reports the UK’s Guardian.
Rowling thanked everyone who had bought a copy of the book, telling the Guardian, "I am absolutely delighted that so much money has been raised," she said. "All royalties will be going to help children without families, many of them with disabilities, whose voices have been unheard for many years."
The tales were first mentioned in the seventh and final book in the Potter series.
Josh Tyler at CinemaBlend has heard from a reliable source that Warner Bros. is already talking about making Rowling’s latest triumph into a film, writing: “This should come as no surprise to anyone: Warner Brothers wants more Harry Potter. The last book in J.K. Rowling’s fantasy series is already being prepped for the big screen, but when it’s over that leaves Warners without a source of steady, reliable, wizard income. Knowing that the magical gravy train is coming to an end, the WB is looking for ways to squeeze more out of Potter. According to one of our regular, reliable sources, they’re hoping to do it by digging deep into other J.K. Rowling work; specifically The Tales of Beedle The Bard”.
