Cate Blanchett has brought her talent to many, many projects that were developed and directed by other people, but we don't often hear of her picking her own material and making sure it gets made. Maybe she's riding high on her Benjamin Button success, then, since she's talking to MTV Movies Blog about her plans to adapt the graphic novel Cancer Vixen.
Yes, it's called Cancer Vixen, and it's pretty much exactly the kind of book it sounds like. Marisa Acocella Marchetto, a cartoonist living in New York City, wrote her true story about battling cancer in graphic novel form. "“It’s a really unique book," Blanchett said. "“It’s a tragic-comic look at [cancer]. So it needs a really particular, special filmmaker. I hope that happens.”
I think the majority of us would follow Blanchett anywhere, and I'm intrigued by the idea of seeing her in something modern and comedic, albeit dealing with a serious topic. She's actually one of the few actresses I'd trust with that kind of material, and I'm betting the studios feel the same way. Let her get through this Oscar season intact, and then some studio needs to give the lady the development deal she wants.
