The Game Plan Opens Sept. 28
Rated PG
(CBS4) MIAMI Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is
showing his softer side in a new film by Walt Disney
Pictures.
The former pro wrestler turned action movie star is now trying his
hand at the family comedy, “The Game Plan.”
CBS4’S Lisa Petrillo had the opportunity to talk one-on-one with
the stars of the film, including the popular pint-size star,
Madison Pettis, 9, who many youngsters will recognize as ‘Sophie’,
the daughter of the President of the United States in Disney
Channel’s “Cory in the House”.
In “The Game Plan”, Johnson plays quarterback Joe Kingman who is
known as one of the toughest players to ever take the field.
Blessed with amazing strength and agility, he's famed for being
able to handle any hit, no matter how ferocious. Kingman's
Boston-based pro football team, The Rebels, is chasing their
long-awaited championship and Joe has been living the ultimate
bachelor fantasy: he's cool, rich, famous and the life of every
party and there are a lot of parties.
But his dream is suddenly sacked for a loss when he discovers
Peyton, the 8-year-old daughter he never knew existed, on his
doorstep.
“Ultimately, the message is about strong relationships, not only
strong relationships but about family relationships and taking care
if family,” said Johnson.
Just as his career is soaring, Joe Kingman must learn to juggle his
old lifestyle of parties, practices and dates with supermodels
while tackling the new challenges of ballet, bedtime stories and
baby dolls, all without fumbling.
Pettis said Johnson, who is a dad in real life, acted very fatherly
on the set.
“He always acted like a dad, making sure I had a healthy breakfast,
always watching out for me like a dad.”
In the film, as the championship grows nearer, Joe is about to
realize that the game that truly matters has nothing to do with
money, endorsements or even touchdowns, it's all about the really
tough stuff: patience, teamwork, selflessness and winning the heart
of the one little fan who turns out to count the most.
Dwayne Johnson, who played football for the University of Miami,
says putting on those cleats and getting back on the field was
exhilarating.
“With a football stallion like myself, it wasn’t ‘ouch’, it was
like ‘ow wee’. The goal for me was to make it into the NFL. It
never happened, so to get this movie, a Walt Disney movie, it’s a
dream come true.”
“The Game Plan” opens in theatres Friday September 29th. It’s rated
PG.
