Has anyone else noticed that John Krasinski may be hilarious on the office, but his transition to the big screen has been less than stellar? Sure, he’s had a few brief cameos that were pretty funny, but put the man in a leading role and there’s nothing new (License to Wed, Leatherheads). Essentially, it was the same snarky, immature character from The Office, only less interesting in a new environment (although that should partially be blamed on Robin Williams).
Krasinski isn’t giving up yet. In fact, he is moving into bigger and bigger casts with more talented members. In theory, you’d think that would work for him, right? The latest project to gain Krasinski’s name is Nancy Meyers’ untitled project for Universal Pictures, according to Variety. The movie also stars Meryl Streep, Steve Martin, and Alec Baldwin, not to mention a wave of lesser known actors we reported on joining the cast a few weeks ago.
Krasinski’s “everyman” quality may work well in Meyers’ hands, but there’s a part of me that hopes she’ll make the actor stretch beyond that a little bit. After all, he’s tried sticking with that with little success beyond The Office. Maybe it’s time for him to try something new.
