There’s only one person who should be directing the next Superman movie, and his name is Bryan Singer. Unfortunately it seems as though Warner Brothers has succumbed to the revisionist, Superman Returns failed, history floating around out there in the ether, so much so that they now believe they’d be better off having the next Superman movie directed by the Wachowskis.
That’s right, the Wachowski brothers. Let’s take a minute to really understand how ludicrous this is. Bryan Singer, who delivered a Superman movie which earned $200 million at the box office and absolutely stellar reviews is now considered inferior to a directing duo whose last movie, Speed Racer was a complete critical and financial flop, and who, if we’re honest, haven’t really made anything that great since The Matrix in 1999 which they then proceeded to ruin with increasingly inferior sequels. Yet WB wants them over Bryan Singer?
Yep. That’s the rumor being floated by the guys at AICN. Their source claims it’s Singer that ditched the Superman project leaving WB to seek fresh creative direction in the form of the Wachowskis. But if you’ve been following the Superman directing rumors over the past few months, then you know that the WB hasn’t exactly sounded all that keen to re-hire Singer anyway. It’s X-Men all over again, and anyone who’s surprised hasn’t been paying attention.
Not only does the rumor claim the Wachowskis are being hired to do the next Superman, but it’ll be yet another reboot for the franchise (because those have worked so well… Hulk anyone?), and not just a reboot but a reboot to launch a big, splashy, Superman trilogy.
This rumor is so big, it seems a little hard to swallow. Don’t believe it until there’s some sort of official confirmation. If it’s true, I hope you like your Superman dressed in black pleathor.
