Like it or not, Jigsaw will be returning to screens this year in yet another Saw movie - what are we up to, Saw 27? (No, it’s only Saw VI, although it feels like more.) A familiar face from the franchise’s past may be returning for the next chapter, if an accident on Lionsgate is being interpreted correctly, although the question is - do we really want him to?
Bloody-Disgusting had one of their readers notice something interesting on the Xbox Live description of Saw V, which was recently featured on the gaming service’s video section. The description reads: ”One man. One plan. One foot. Yes, the doctor is in! With a strange twist of fate and a revengeful plot, get ready for the most anticipated event of Saw. Face your fears at his operating table. Know that no one is safe from his sickness. Chills and screams are his true pleasure. on...and Blood? You'll be drenched in it.” BD sees this as confirmation of a recent rumor they’ve been hearing that Cary Elwes would be returning for the first time since the original Saw - a rumor they hadn’t been reporting because of Twisted Pictures’ tendency to change their movie plans based on information leaks.
Elwes played Dr. Lawrence Gordon in the first Saw movie, where the good doctor cut off his own foot to escape Jigsaw’s trap. While the subsequent movies have alluded to Gordon, showing his office door and dismembered foot, the character himself hasn’t been seen again. Considering how revisionary the latest Saw chapter was, it wouldn’t surprise me for the next movie to go back and feature Gordon, finally explaining what had been intentionally left to fans’ imaginations
Considering how poorly most people view the first Saw movie, including Elwes’ performance, do we really want to see Dr. Gordon return? We might be saved that fate after all; there’s also a Saw video game in the works, and it’s possible that description could have been for the game, not the next movie. Either way, something was leaked here, and all signs point to the return of Elwes’ character, either in sequel or virtual form.
