The Academy must have known that this whole "secret Oscar presenters" gambit couldn't have lasted long. Then again, maybe it was just a trick to get us to actually care when names are leaked, rather than just shrugging and figuring we'd watch the highlights on the Today show come Monday.
The latest names to surface are along the lines of yesterday's Robert Pattinson rumor: Vanessa Hudgens, Zac Efron and Beyonce will all supposedly take part in the ceremony, along with Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper from Mamma Mia!. E! Online reports that Beyonce and Hugh Jackma have been practicing a dance routine in New York, and everyone else will join for rehearsals in Hollywood.
Efron would also be showing up as a presenter, handing out the Best Original Song trophy-- a category for which many of his High School Musical 3 songs were eligible, but didn't make the cut. Burn! All this tween starpower seems to indicate that the Academy is more desperate than usual to get eyeballs. But I still doubt that the tactic will work. Of course, any time anyone underestimates Zac Efron's fanbase, they do so at their own peril. So maybe I'll shut up and see how things turn out on Sunday.
