Jimmy Fallon finally took over as host of NBC's Late Night on Monday.
The show brought in the highest Monday ratings its received in more than three years and was up 35% from Conan O'Brien's average this season, reports the Hollywood Reporter.
The ratings were up there but Fallon's anxiety level may have been even higher.
Everyone’s first day on the job is bound to be nerve wracking. But, most people don’t do impersonations of their colleagues?
Fallon welcomed first guest
Robert De Niro by impersonating him as sat next to him and then asking De Niro for approval: "That was pretty good, right?"
Luckily his next guest,
Justin Timberlake, put him at ease and the show seemed to simultaneously relax and become reenergized.
As for the competition, Fallon's debut out-rated Craig Ferguson's back in 2005 and even
Jimmy Kimmel's back in 2003.
As for the reviews:
EW called it "ultra-ordinary — one liners about President Obama and the deficit that sounded like material Jay Leno's writers had faxed over from L.A."
While the Chicago Tribune said Fallon was "Sweaty, tense, uptight, nervous, wound-up, keyed up — pick an adjective."
