Nick Nolte is headed back to Vietnam. Actually, he’s headed back into the role of someone who was at Vietnnam - a popular motif for the actor. He played the part of the vet (kind of) most recently in Tropic Thunder, but his career has been riddled with that part. Admittedly, it’s been a while since I’ve seen it, but wasn’t his Down and Out in Beverly Hills character a vet as well?
The new project for Nolte is Warrior, reports Variety. The movie, set in a martial arts fighting environment, is described as a drama which features Nolte as “an ex-Vietnam vet boxer-turned-steel mill worker” who attempts to make up for his past family issues (alcoholism) by training his son to fight in a tournament. Thomas Hardy (RocknRolla) will play the son, who is set to go up against his own brother (Joel Edgerton) over the course of the tournament. Hmmm… I guess that family is more messed up than the description covers, if dad chooses to help one brother over another.
There seems to be a lot of fighting movies coming up. Despite being called drama, I wouldn’t be surprised if it winds up showcasing some fighting sequences, cashing in on the up and coming trend. Let’s just hope for Nolte’s sake, the market doesn’t get oversaturated before Warrior makes it to screens.
