I wondered when Jeff Goldblum joined the cast of Law & Order: Criminal Intent if that would tie the actor up from future quicky movie projects. I can’t say Goldblum is always good, but he is always interesting, if only to wonder how long the actor can do the same schtick. I guess Law & Order isn’t going to take up all of Goldblum’s time, because he’s signed on to join the cast of The Baster, one of the worst named movies currently in production.
If you haven’t already heard us talk about it, the movie is about a man who’s friend is artificially inseminated after he replaces the selected father sample with his own. When she returns seven years later, he has to deal with the secret that her son is his too.
Thankfully, we’re being spared the idea of Goldblum swapping out someone else’s baby-juice for his own. Jason Bateman gets that prestigious role. Instead, THR reports that Goldblum will play Bateman’s business partner and confidant, which means we’ll get a lot of Goldblum hemming and hawing through shock of Bateman’s character’s actions and insistence that Bateman come clean about what he’s done. See - with Goldblum cast, the scenes pretty much write themselves. Just watch Jurassic Park or Independence Day and imagine his scenes in The Baster yourself.
