My dad has been a car mechanic his entire life, and a good one too, which I suppose should make me a gearhead. Except even though he’s good at it, he hates it and thus spent most of my childhood making certain that I know how much it sucks, ensuring that when I grew up I’d do something grease-free with my life. Don’t ask me to change your oil, I’m clueless. That gearhead counter-programming never took on my brother though, and he’s a huge car nut. As a car nut, I know he’d be excited about this and so perhaps will some of you.
Universal is putting the high-octane muscle cars of Fast & Furious on display exclusively at Universal Studios Hollywood. The 1987 Buick Grand National and a 2009 Subaru WRX STI that are driven by the stars Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are parked inside the theme park within arm’s reach of fans and car aficionados. Within arm’s reach means they aren’t actually going to touch them. Unless of course you lean over the rope while nobody’s looking. Come on, you know you want to.
They’ll be part of the fleet of famous cars parked along the Studio Tour route, next to them you’ll see famous cars like the DeLorean from Back to the Future, the Mule from Serenity, and The Blues Brothers Blues Mobile. Actually it seems a little odd to park them there. Are a bunch of street racers from the fourth Fast and the Furious movie really on the same iconic scale as the Back to the Future DeLorean? To me it seems almost an insult though I suspect my brother and his gearhead proclivities might disagree.
