It's unclear why Orlando Bloom continues to get work, having clearly outlived his usefulness now that Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean are pretty much over. But Bloom and Andrew McCarthy, of all people, have just signed on for the film Main Street, a production of the last screenplay written by recently deceased writer Horton Foote.
The whole premise sounds just fine, based on THR's description, and Bloom and McCarthy will join luminaries like Ellen Burstyn, Patricia Clarkson and Colin Firth in the cast. But given that the movie is set in North Carolina, and Bloom will play a small town cop, I am already dreading his Southern accent. Come on, you know you are too.
What's most interesting here is that the movie is getting started in a week or so, but they still haven't cast the main character, a young girl whose life, along with everyone else in her town, is shaken up when a stranger arrive. I'm assuming this is because both Abigail Breslin and Dakota Fanning are busy, and no one can ever think of anyone else to take their parts. It'll be interesting to see who they come up with in the end.
