Jack Nicholson’s last romantic comedy was 1997’s As Good As It Gets and even then he seemed a little old to be wandering the halls of the rom-com world. Now at the outwart age of 137 (actual age 72), he’s jumping back into the romance game. Variety says he’s been added to the cast of an untitled romantic comedy being helmed by James L. Brooks.
The film is an ensemble and Jack is the missing piece of the puzzle. Already on board are Paul Rudd, Reese Witherspoon, and Owen Wilson. Bill Murray had been up for the Nicholson part, but lost interest leaving room for Jack to replace him. I bet Bill Murray’s feeling pretty old right about now.
In the film, Jack will play the wealthy father of Paul Rudd’s character. Age appropriate I guess. As long as we’re over the notion of Nicholson as some romantic lead. It’s no longer funny to stand up on stage and joke about all the women he’s sleeping with, when the man looks like he’s suffering the aftereffects of a stroke.
