Peter Jackson Committed To 3D Forever And Forever

When it comes to technical innovators, James Cameron and Peter Jackson are pretty much the best we've got. The two of them together have propelled CGI animation more than any other filmmakers, embracing new technologies and visions with a zeal that's inspired other directors to follow suit. So when Cameron committed years ago to making all of his future films using the next whiz-bang technology-- 3D-- we probably should have expected Peter Jackson to be right behind him.
And according to Market Saw, that's exactly what he's got planned. They interviewed 3ality Systems CEO Steve Schklair, who told about his work with Jackson, who is using 3ality rigs and systems to shoot Tintin and all of his other upcoming projects.. "having guys like Peter Jackson jump in and say things like "I'll be making all my movies in 3D" is a great vote of confidence for the theater owners who are thinking about making the investment."
So there you have it-- as goes Cameron, so go all of his disciples. Michael Bay is still on the record as distrusting 3D, but it wouldn't surprise me to see other action directors start making the same commitment soon enough. Then again, 3D may be just a fad, and when it's all over Bay will be the one standing victorious (ugh). But if something has both Peter Jackson and James Cameron enthralled, it's got to be pretty powerful, right?
