This is what is written in Hebrew 4:12 ---
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any
twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and
spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the
thoughts and intents of the heart.”
As the verse states, the soul and the spirit can be separated by the
Word of God. This implies that they are not one and the same. The
spirit does not have flesh and bones, while the soul is the wholeness
of one's being. In Genesis 2:7, this is what is stated:
“But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to
the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be
increased.”
“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed
into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
A living soul is the totality of the combination of the dust of the
ground and the spirit or the breath of life that came from God.
