Well the best way is to empty your base of troops before the enemy arrives.The best units are high level tanks and planes infantry are useless. build up units and send them to "support" another base at the lowest speed then call then back when you need them. Don't bother trying to defend your base with very little low level units they'll get killed or go into cease fire always works to build up an army.

or join an alliance that worked for me cause the one i joined and the one that was attacking me were allies so you could try that
