HOLLYWOOD -
Anna Nicole Smith's longtime companion/lawyer Howard K. Stern made a surprise appearance in a Bahamas courtroom on Monday as the delayed inquest into the late actress/model's son got underway.
Stern wasn't expected to attend the inquest into the death of Daniel Smith in 2006, but he showed up to testify for just less than five minutes.
Before he left court, Judge William Campbell reminded the attorney he could be called back as a witness at a later date.
Daniel Smith died from a drug overdose three days after his mother gave birth to baby daughter Dannielynn in September 2006. He was 20.
The inquest hearing will continue on Tuesday. It is expected that the inquest will be adjourned until sometime in December.
Daniel Smith's grandmother, Virgie Arthur, was also in court for the hearing.
