How the hell do defenders lose 50% stats? They are on home turf, how is being at home lowering your troops stats?? Explain mods??

I think that's only the case with planes and that's probably because of the surprise nature of attacks during WW2. Aside from Britain, no other countries had radar detection. Thus, many times, plane raids could have gone undetected which would have caused the defender to not have planes up in the air. By the time planes could get up in the air, many are destroyed. I think taht's how the logic for the defense goes.
