This is just my experience. Iam not sure it can help you or not but try it.
I installed 0.98. Have the same problem. So return 0.97. or Be patient, "connecting server": maybe your network is slow, wait some minutes. If cant, turn off your bitcomet then start it again. If cant again, maybe next time, you can log in...sometimes, I also the same problem with you...Cheer!!
