I am trying to use Bitcomet. I am concerned that i cannot see a "Peer Safe" type setting such as i have in Azeurus. It may be there, i don't know, the guides are too complex for me to tell. I know in Azeurus that lots of IP's ae blocked from connecting to my address 24/7 - an IP filter. Does Bitcomet have one and if it does how do i know it is active?

Safepeer is a 3rd party add-on written under open-source license agreements that Azureus uses. While I do like opensource programs, it does have a big downside in regards to torrent clients, because versions of azureus have been developed by the anti-p2p groups that your trying to avoid, and have been used to poison existing torrents by sending out rubbish data, as well as malicious software/viruses ect.

BitComet's source code is private, so no such add-on can be developed. BitComet used to support IPfilter.dat lists, but this option was removed, however there is a free program that you can use to block connections to "known" IP address that are hostile to p2p users. Its called "peer guardian", and you can get it from phoenix labs (do google search).

I will also add that it is very easy for a person/group to acquire an IP thats not on any block list, so your really not protected as much as you might believe, either by safepeer or peerguardian.

Additionally, the block lists that are offered are often bloated and will block not only bad IPs, but some of the best seeders too. Many files are seeded by university IP addresses, so blocking education IP addresses is foolish. The only lists you should use are the p2p, spyware, adware, and perhaps government (if your country allows the government to monitor your use).

Peer guardian is usually a very lightweight program and doesn't use a lot of resources, unlike azureus, which isn't a bad client, but will often use several times the resources of bitcomet and peer guardian combined.

Additionally, if you would like to see IPfilter support added to bitcomet again, feel free to post it as a request, but I will add that bitcomet does not support illegal filesharing, and will never provide lists of hostile IP addresses, so it will be your responsibility to obtain and install the lists your self, which is why most people use peer guardian, and why bitcomet stopped developing this option.

I will also add that if you use......
