Will Ferrell may not be a producing genius like Judd Apatow, but he certainly knows comedy. He's probably made a good decision, because he's going into producing with Adam McKay, the guy behind movies like Anchorman and Talladega Nights and a co-founder of FunnyorDie.com. If they can make a feature-length movie as funny as "The Landlord," they're golden.
The movie these guys are trying their hand with is called Stewie, a comedy about a guy pressured into losing his virginity by his best friend, who wants to film it. Hey, we live in a YouTube culture-- that kind of thing could get like a million hits, easily. The movie will be directed by Andrew Gurland and Huck Botko, who according to JoBlo directed a film in 2004 called Mail-Order Bride with a similar plot. So either these guys are tackling something they know, or they're retreading old material. Either way, a great concept is a great concept.
There have been comedies about losing your virginity probably as long as there have been actors, but adventures in "doing the deed" are definitely on a roll thanks to the unlucky boys of Superbad last summer. Ferrell himself is probably too old to star in a comedy about teenagers, but here's hoping he knows how to guide the making of a good one.
