One of the hardest things that I have had to learn growing up, and out, of my adolescence is the absolute desperate need for monetary security. The reason that this has been a hard lesson learned is that I never seem to have enough of it just to support me and mine. On the rare occasions where all is paid and secure, even if only for a couple of weeks, the weight lifted off of my chest is an actual physical sensation, and I can breathe freely knowing that I will come home the next day, and not have my wife crying because she has been going over the bills and cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel.
The thing growing up poor is that you learn to make due with what you have, and learn to deal with it. Not to say that I don't strive everyday to make it better, but while I still have to deal with it, my family will never go hungry, we will always have a home, and there will always be warmth when it's needed. You just learn to make do.
So for the last 6-8 months (coinciding with the start our current political hooplah, wierd huh:) I have listened to our elected officials talking about our country falling into recession. We are in a war (or conflict, or whatever new buzzword there is for it today) that has cost us well over $500billion since 2002, gas costs more than twice what it did before we invaded Iraq, home forclosures are as common to most people now as eating at McDonalds, giant publicly-traded American corporations are moving their labor to third world countries so that their profits can go up and make more money for their share-holders (majority of whom are still other Americans, the word is P-A-R-A-D-O-X) while reaping huge tax breaks, and these are just the quick, common examples. Our financial stability as a whole has receded, and it is ignorant to think otherwise............BUT,
we are all still alive.
We will continue to live.
Because the NASDAQ took a 450 turn down at one point during the day does not mean that my family will wake up in the street. Because our government decides to add more taxes onto our already continuously record-setting priced gasoline has no bearing on the love that I receive from my children. Let the slime fight it out on FOX news and the campaign trail about who has the best plan to fight it, you cannot have the heart for the battle unless you have bled on the battlefield. So here it is; keep fighting for what you have, all that you have, be it a little or alot, just keep fighting for it. We The People cannot depend on liars and thieves to care for us and our children, only we can. If they ask you to stand with them, tell them to come down here and stand with the rest of us, it's the only way that we can really make some change......
