VND30,000 = 2USD for three golden carp, VND25,000 for three normal carp, the prices are a little more expensive than usual but most Hanoian families are still buying fish for the Kitchen God’s journey to the Heaven. At big lakes in Hanoi, some people brought carp to release in the early morning to “help our Kitchen God go to Heaven early, and avoid traffic jams.” Duc Hai, from Nguyen Cong Tru Street, brought her fish to the Hoan Kiem Lake for release while Vu Binh passed a long way from Giap Bat Street to the Red River to release his fish. Some young families buy paper carp to burn for the Kitchen God. “Each set of paper fish is worth VND3,000-5,000 only but our Kitchen God still have ‘vehicles’ to go to Heaven,” said Thuy from Giang Vo street.
