I hate to say I’m not all that excited about Semi-Pro, Will Ferrell’s upcoming basketball movie about the ABA’s merger into the NBA. It’s not that I have anything against the movie, which has a wealth of comedic stars. It’s just that Ferrell hasn’t proven to me that he can make a funny sports movie beyond NASCAR.
Fortunately for Semi-Pro, Ferrell’s character, Jackie Moon, has more going for him than just sports. He’s a one-hit wonder musician, as well as the team owner, manager, and player. Now Jackie Moon’s single hit, “Love Me Sexy” is available online for fans of both Moon and Ferrell to pick up. New Line has released the single through almost all digital music service providers. ITunes is carrying the song, as well as an acapella version and an instrumental version of the tune.
Frankly, if they really wanted to promote both the movie and the upcoming soundtrack (where “Love Me Sexy” will appear), they should have made this song available as a free download. Push the movie using this as a promotional tool instead of a sales opportunity. While I like the song, I can’t say I care for it enough to purchase it, which means, other than the brief listen I gave it, New Line has lost an opportunity here.
