Too lazy to read all the wonderful news our insightful crew scours the globe to bring you every day? Too outmoded to have an MP3 player for the podcast? Shame on you all! However, being the generous lot we are, welcome to news:blended, your weekly guide to the most interesting stories reported on Cinema Blend over the last seven days.

The biggest news of the week was that Heath Ledger was still dead, but better remembered than previously. Also, The Hobbitt may have finally found a director. I didn’t blend any strike stories because Lost is back on the air so who cares at this point. Oh yeah, see Once.

SATURDAY
Fans not standing still for our naysaying.
Ugh.
The week started off a bit slow. First John Cleese was announced to have a role in the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still. We pointed out that we hate remakes as a rule. The comments section took exception with our dislike. We accept their exception. Saw V casting rumors were also announced. The whole idea of this movie franchise makes me kinda sick.

SUNDAY
Superhero will have superhero costume.
The Wackness gets bought, which is a bad thing.
Remember that funny picture of Will Smith wearing the knit cap and the big sunglasses looking like a bum. That’s the “after” picture for his new movie, Hancock. We also have some “before” pictures now, showing him in his superhero togs. Or maybe that’s flip flopped, maybe he puts the costume back on in the movie. Either way, it’s tight. Not tight as in good, tight as in tight. The Wackness is also tight, as in good, reportedly, and was bought from Sundance by Sony Pictures Classics. That is not good, since they can’t seem to get their act together when it comes to releasing a movie folks want to see.

MONDAY
There goes the sun….dance.
Bilbo has a master.
If you were impressed with our Sundance coverage (and who wasn’t?), but wished you get it all in one hand place, you’re in luck. We’ve done just that. By “we”, I mean Josh. We also added our favorite movies from the festival. By “we”, I mean three people who aren’t me. I didn’t do anything, come to think of it, which is pretty normal around here. Guillermo Del Toro does a lot, unlike me, and now he is going to probably direct The Hobbit. He’ll probably do a good job, don’t you think?

TUESDAY
Josh and I get on the same page.
James T. Kirk: Boy About Town
Josh and I were both equally disturbed to find out that the one reason to watch the Oscars in the last decade; to see Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova perform the beautiful “Falling Slowly” from the year’s second best movie, Once, live on the telecast, might be in jeopardy. There was a report the song would be disqualified for not being written directly for the movie. It was all cleared up, but for awhile I actually cared about the Oscars, which is kinda newsworthy. If you haven’t seen Once, you should. Today. Tuesday also had another one of those Star Trek stories I can’t get that excited about. Something about a young boy being cast as James Kirk.

WEDNESDAY
They put the ROM in formulaic rom-com.
I remember Katey remembering Nolan remembering Ledger.
Sometimes a news article isn’t really anything exciting but the comments section (below our news items) is full of gold. Mine aren’t, since no one comments on my articles, or when they do, it’s usually just a quick “you suck, douchebag!” The item Josh wrote about a pedestrian new romantic comedy starring Gerard Butler and Katherine Heigl was taken to task by someone who calls him a “glaring fanboy” and insinuates he’s not very “urbane.” The fact that she’s right doesn’t make it any less funny to read. It wasn’t funny to read a tribute Christopher Nolan wrote about Heath Ledger in Newsweek. It was actually kinda sweet. And coming from an identified douchebag like myself, that’s high praise indeed.

THURSDAY
A for effort, bud.
Josh and I get off the same page.
The first time I saw the trailer of the upcoming Jack Black/Mos Def movie, Be Kind Rewind, I thought “man, I have got to see this movie.” Then I saw director Michael Gondry do the entire trailer again with just himself, some bad wigs, and a heavy accent. It was almost better. I’m hoping the DVD has an extra where he does the whole movie again with himself playing every character. I’m also hoping that I don’t have to hear anymore about the Mighty Ducks. For some reason Josh (and a LOT of our readers) love this poor man’s Bad News Bears and he wrote a pretty nice homage to his “special” film. I’m still not gonna watch it again. Quack, quack, quack my ass.

FRIDAY
The best football movies ever. Except the one Mack picked, which sucks.
Ah, man, what a great show.
The Super Bowl is on Sunday. I think I have to pay those money grubbers at the NFL $1,000 just to type that. I’ll try again. The “Big Game” is Sunday and we picked the best football movies. Actually, I picked the best football movie and Mariana agreed with me. Everyone else was wrong. It’s not wrong, however, to love The Greatest American Hero. Boy, that segue way sucked. It was a great TV show, though, and now it might be a movie. That makes me want to rent the TV show on DVD, if it exists. Which it probably does: the aliens would want it that way.

That’s all for another week of news blending. It’s like what you get at Jamba Juice, but cheaper and not quite as healthy. If you liked it or didn’t, leave some feedback.
