Chapter One
I actually don't know if there's going to be anything beyond chapter one, but i just wanted to catch your attention a bit, so you actually would take a look. So now, when you're here, i thought i might tell you a bit about my burning interest in F1.
This started out about fifteen or twenty years ago, depending on if i talk about casualy or regularly watching it on tv. I have never been to a race, but that is a drean that is going to be realized in a not to distant future. Anyway, i fell in love with it from the first race i watched. At the time there was Saubers (now BMW), Benetton (now Renault) and Jordan (now Force India). There was V10 engines, roaring out incredible power. Of course todays engines have just as much horsepower, but the torque of those engines was just incredible. And they never revved higher than 15000 rpm.
Todays F1 is very much about tweeking the small things to earn tenths of a second on a lap. But twenty years ago, there was seconds to be made, by just altering the tyres or changing the bodywork a bit. Sadly, such things are not allowed today, because the rules and regulations that have been introduced by FIA (the worldwide motorsports governing body) have limited the cahnges to the cars so much that they all are soon to be made from the same formula it seems.
Earlier on, before i started to watch it, there was even cars with six wheels, humongous superchargers, wings as high as flagpoles, and even engines driven on jet-engine-fuel. As you all can imagine, those was probably fun cars to watch, but i doubt i would ever want to be the driver who had to master those beasts. And the deathrate of those days prove it.
Many are the F1-fans who say that the sport was much better in the old times, when there was no wings at all, or the engines wah at just 1,5 litres.
But evolution has to be allowed to make a sport progress and to keep up with the times. Of cours some of the rules stating that some things are banned from the sport because they are to irrelevant of todays roadcars, is just insane. What on an F1-car is relevant to todays personal transportation? Nothing. Theyre just designed for speed, efficiency and to win races. They're designed to last for a couple of races, and then be changed. A roadcar lasts for 20, 30 years and sometimes even much longer (Land Rover anyone).
I say that to appreciate the sport you have to set aside the history and appreciate wats going on today, even though you might have different oppinions on some things. But that's why guys like me write things like this.
To let you read someones oppinion, and leave your own in the comments. So, please comment. I promise i will read it all.
