It’s been a while since we’ve seen Nana Visitor in genre piece. Sure, she followed up Star Trek: Deep Space Nine with a short stint on Dark Angel, but then she moved more towards mainstream comedy and drama. The actress is stepping into the realm of horror for the first time, with a brief appearance in the upcoming Friday the 13th remake.
ScreenGeeks reports that Visitor talked about her upcoming appearance in a recent interview. She will be playing Pamela Voorhees, mother to the hockey-masked serial killer Jason. The actress gave two pieces of information about her role:
1) Her screen time in the movie is relatively short, so don’t expect to see a lot of her in the movie.
2) She’s had a mold made of her head.
Based on this, we can guess Visitor’s part in the remake will follow some of the tradition of the original (decapitation). I’m still curious to see how involved her character is though. In the original Friday the 13th, Mrs. Voorhees was the killer, with Jason picking up mommy’s work in the sequels. Everything we’ve heard sounds like Platinum Dunes is going to play more on people’s memory of Jason as the killer instead of sticking with the original story. So is Visitor playing a brief but important part, or just a brief part?
I still don’t care much for the idea of remaking such an iconic horror picture, but at least they’re pulling together an interesting cast. It’s great to hear Visitor will be a part of such a visible project too, even if it is just for a short time.
