Why converting avi formats to dvd formats.

A nice solution for all the time.

Get a standalone dvd player with :

  • divx 3.11/4.x/5.x/6.x/divx-pro
  • xvid 1.x
  • optional bivx (mpeg-4 720x480 @ 30 fps)
  • support subtitle format .srt or/and .sub (not often used)
  • Dolby didgital 5.1
  • DTS 5.1
  • with a decoder or without a decoder when you have a seperate digital amplifier (coax connection from the standalone dvd player)

Burn a DVD disc with 6 movies each of +/- 700 MB + .srt subtitles.

The sound is dolby digital 2.0 (stereo) pcm in many cases or you must have a film who is split in 2 avi parts files then you can get a dolby digital 5.1 audio track for example recent films "cloverfield xvid-devise" and "the bank job xvid-trg".

But in many cases the sound is Dolby surround/pro logic 4.0 - left and right, center, and a single limited frequency-range mono rear channel.

But still a great sound !.

Troubleshooting :

When you have a movie its freezes in the beginning or in the middle or the sound is a little bit out of sync.

There is a program i use its called "avidemux 2.4 (freeware)" it detects automatically the used audio format for example : MP3 it will unpack it and sync it with the movie, then save the new movie format as .avi format. Burn it on a DVD+/-RW or CD-r/rw and see the result !

2 years ago i used winavi, santa and other good programs but its time consuming. I have now around 70 DVD's with each 6 movies or 3 movies when the are 2 parts each with subtitles. All are working perfect on my DVD player in combination with my LCD television.

Pricewatch :

A standalone dvd player costs around €40,-- euro to €150,--. You can go for A-brand such as sony, philips etc. but you can go for other brands who play region free in the most cases for example easy touch, peekton.

I have a easy touch bought 2 years ago.

When you are consindering to buy a dvd player go with a burned CD and DVD discs with avi movie + subtitles and check it in the store on a big LCD screen for example ! Thats the best way !.

Wrote for people who have little time or are just intrested for other solutions.
