my semi-technological ramble

Today my normal steadfast, slightly boring and definitely overworked routine was stopped short by an non-functioning coffee shop register. The touch screen type.
This wrecked and rallied my neurons into firing some nonsense phrases and thoughts that surrounded my mediocre tech-savvy life and its reliance on the technological world. The world that runs the world that I live in.
So here is my microcosm.
Normally my day leads a pretty average existence, an easy one compared to most. I get around 6ish (to be technical) hours of sleep a night due to what I call "insomnia filled by electronic devices". Last night in particular, Mario Cart for the Wii held my eyes at close proximity until the clock struck midnight. And knowing that I had to wake up 5 hours from that point pretty much drove me down a steep path. Still, after diving into my bed with my ornery and squirming dog, I proceeded to press the DVR button on my television remote and waste away into another juicy episode of Lost.

Although Lost is a very lust-worthy show in my book, and worth the 40minutes of fast forwarding through commercial goodness that held precedent over 40minutes of REM sleep, I sill worry about keeping a television in my sacred sleeping space. Already I slave (well I guess you could say lean, out of boredom) over a computer at work, type, surf the Internet, and download insane amounts of music on one during my free time, listen to my ipod for 2 allotted hours a day when I hit the gym, and incorporate other means of technology on a daily basis. I cannot believe my retinas are still fully functional by the way. I do not want to do the math and find the truth about how many hours a day my sad and hobby-less (unless you call my new found respect for blogging a hobby) existence slowly deteriorates and hands over safety, humor, entertainment, free-will, credit cards, and insanity to our HDTV, plasma, touchscreen, hands-free, wireless, mp3, technicolor gizmos. No wonder countless movies depict our future at the hands of artificially intelligent robots. Maybe someday my Ipod will sprout legs and a tongue, like something out of Transformers, and kick my butt all the way to total domination.

Who knows.
I guess it is something to ponder over, even if it is something that has been pondered about countless times before.
But until I have intelligent conversations with my laptop and discuss such trivial topics as politics and Paris Hilton, I will just enjoy what this era has placed at my fingertips and watch as many episodes of Lost as I please.
