Mission: Impossible 3 was good and it made money, so I guess it’s no surprise they’d want to do another one. The problem till now though, has been that no one has seemed entirely sure they’d want to do it with Tom Cruise. In case you haven’t heard, people think the guy is kind of crazy.
Whether or not that’s true, it hasn’t exactly helped in getting another M:I movie rolling. There were even rumors for awhile that Brad Pitt might step in and take over the role of Ethan Hunt for Tom. Now though, it looks like Humpty Dumpty may, after all, get put back together.
Variety says Tom Cruise is now in talks with Paramount to star in Mission: Impossible 4. Perhaps more importantly, Sumner Redstone, who owns Viacom and by extension Paramount (and apparently by extension the entire internet judging by what happened to Moviehole early this week), is willing to let it happen. Redstone and Cruise parted ways when Tom ran off to start his own production company in United Artists. Their falling out wasn’t pretty, but now Redstone says he’s ready to have Tom back in the fold. If Tom is really talking to Paramount about doing another movie, I guess that means he’s ready to come back… at least for one more movie.
