HOLLYWOOD - American Idol winner Taylor Hicks will join the Broadway production of Grease next month for a three-month stint as the Teen Angel.
The 31-year-old singer, whose Idol fan base was dubbed the Soul Patrol, plans to add "soulful flavor" to his performance of the song "Beauty School Dropout," a tune originally made famous by Frankie Avalon in the 1978 film.
He says, "It's a big number, and, you know, I've made some pretty grand entrances before. And this one is probably the grandest entrance I've had in my career."
The gray-haired crooner, who won the TV talent competition in 2006, will end his run at the Brooks Atkinson Theater on Sept. 7.
