I know it's a cliche but it really is true. Have you ever wondered just how many attempts are made every day by various organisations and government departments etc to monitor what you are doing on your pc?
At this stage maybe you think i'm a paranoid harbinger of doom so allow me to enlighten you just a little.
Do you know there is such a thing as Anti-Peer to Peer groups? These goups as you may have guessed do not like the fact that you or I download movies, music or anything else that in their view is copyrighted. What they cannot get their heads around is the fact that the binary codes in your hard drive which all information is stored is not covered by copyright!
I don't know exactly what these groups would do if they actually get access to your pc, maybe they just report to the Web Sherriff (yes there is such a person) check out The Pirate Bay legal threats section and you will see (the White Stripes section is hilarious!) or maybe they try to give your pc Computer Gonhorrea? It's quite a coincidence that a lot of pc's screw up after you download something isn't it? What I do know is that I don't like it one bit and after I installed a handy little program called Peer Guardian 2 (no payment required as its free) and then blocked all Anti P2P, Government and Educational Departments in fact everything I did not want from my pc I was stunned by the ammount of attemps to access it. There were U.S Goverment and Military Depts, in fact Government and Military Deparments from all over the world including the U.K.
One group in particular stood out "Algerie Telecom" an Anti P2P group, they alone tried to access my pc 590 times in 24 hours! persistant b*****ds they are but sorry guys I know God loves a tryer but you can P*SS OFF!
I could go on for hours but i shall spare you the aggravation, just download the program, from the link I give you and see for yourself!
Please note: This program will stop anything accessing your pc including stuff you might want to access, If you have problems accessing some web sites you will have to manually allow exeptions.
Here's the link:
http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/
please note: not available for vista, but phoenix labs are working on this.
P.s. I do not work for Phoenix Labs and will gain nothing from promoting their product, I just think it's a good program to have.
This post has been slightly changed as it has been audited (sent to re-cycle bin!) prob because of a suggestion involving sending Computer Gonhorrea to a certain group! it was only a joke and I would certainly never condone or incite anyone to do such a thing. (honest m'lord!) Is that ok Mr Auditor?
