Bitcomet Uploading

I am using bitcomet 0.97. Currently if I open the bitcomet client my internet upload just becomes strangled. NO TASKS running, but my firewall reports bitcomet uploading to an unknown IP at my upload limit.

Sounds supiciously like very dangerous SPYWARE to me. ANy explanations? I have NO upload or download tasks load running, yet bitcomet sucks my entire bandwith on the upload.

Thanks god for firewalls. BEWARE

It sounds like a result of persistent or long-term seeding (terminology changes lately), which I suggest you disable in the preferences/options (more terminology changes). Wish I could tell you more, but the feature's completely undocumented.

You may want to downgrade to a version that doesn't do that.

thanx for the info about long term seeding i was seemingly uploading over 300kbps to nothing but i disabled long term seeding as you suggested to someone and it has worked perfectly now i know exactly what i'm seeding so a thousand thank yous to you

ok, so changing port number seems to fixed this for now.

Still unhappy about what i experienced... Open bitcomet client, have NO tasks running (or even in my list) and my upload goes straight up to its maximum and my interent connection becomes unusably slow. My firewall is reporting an upload speed of near 100kb/s from bitcomet yet I have anbsolutely NO shared tasks!!

This surely is a security issue. I recommend everyone check their firewalls with this product. Even with my shared tasks at zero, and my new port number I can still see bitcomet happily communicating away with the internet, although at a more controllable and slow 7k.

Still, I'd like to know what info is being STOLEN from my PC.

Did you follow kluelos' suggestion of disabling Long-Term Seeding?

long term seeding is a feature where you can both download and upload to other bitcomet users which is designed to use bandwidth that isn't used. It is a very good feature, but it should be limited if your needing the bandwidth for other applications. Disabling it will cause you to not be able to receive (download) from other peers on this network, but you can limit how much of your bandwidth is used for LT seeding.

I was experiencing the same problem; i followed kluelos' idea and it seems to have helped. Bitcomet is no longer uploading at 150k for no reason but still continues to use about 20k upload/download even though bitcomet reports a download/upload speed of 0kBs. hmmm still anoying really.
