these are the newest additions to my music player.
elaine paige & sarah brightman: memory - yes, hayley actually does like this one. i don't think she has a clue about the play it came from. this is a song i consider a true classic. hayley gives it 2 paws up.
10,000 maniacs: trouble me(live) - not a bad rendition of the song for a live performance, however, i still prefer the studio version as it appears on blind man's zoo.
9-lives: volumen - joke song - haven't heard it before (cat, 9 lives -- get it?)
hayley westenra: wuthering heights (uk) - this is the version that is on the uk pure release and seems to have a more flowery flow, while the american release is not nearly as flowery and quite a bit more stark in presentation. for anyone who has read the book or seen the movie, this is probably more fitting. i think the american release does a better job of showcasing hayley's astoundingly smooth and pure upper-range reach.
evanescence: my immortal - this is a tune i like because it does not veil feelings in its pretty music. this is a love song for the goth scene, but perhaps it is a love song all people can appreciate.
the police: synchronicity 2 - perhaps the best paean to suburban angst. it absolutely kicks ass from the music to the primal scream melody. way to go, sting! not bad for a schoolteacher. a classic that i believe transcends time.
metallica: one - this is a dragged-through-the-trenches, bombed, burned & bloodied song that recalls the horrors of war and how a comatose soldier thinks to himself "hold my breath as wish for death, oh please god wake me." not exactly cheery stuff, but good all-out rocking & speed metal.
poison: every rose has its thorn - good, sad cry-in-your-beer kind of stuff frm a hair-metal band.
william orbit: arber's adagio for strings - a nice technofied version the timeless classic.
regina: baby love - a teen love song set to dance music and sung by a coquettish young woman who has my vote for cuteness.
dido - didn't think for even a second i'd forget you nice uk people in my lineup, did you? nice gentle voice that is pleasant but not boring.
skid row: i remember you - a hard-rocking love song with sebastian bach belting out the notes in a timeless hard rock love song.
stacyq: baby love - this is an obvious labeling mistake, but if it get the song to play, what the hell. coincidentally, she was also popular around the same time. 2 one-hit wonders, but my pick is still regina for her cuteness & singing.
sarah brightman: this love - a beautiful song from a beautiful woman.
sarah brightman: winterlight - love this song & the video, it's smokin' hot!
sarah brightman: the music of the night - for all you phantom lovers.
sarah brightman: hijo de la luna - don't understand the words, but it's a beautiful tune.
sarah brightman: dust in the wind - a nicely done remake of the wistful, pensive tune by kansas.
sarah brightman: techno opera - if i'm not mistaken, this was actually cecilia bartoli, but nonetheless a terrific song by a blue alien.
sarah brightman: amigos para siempre - friends forever, which is how i like things. i never like saying goodbye to friends.
sarah brightman & michael crawford: phantom of the opera - love this song. i'll bet it's tougher than hell to sing well.
sarah brightman & michael crawford: phantom of the opera - love this song. i'll bet it's tougher than hell to sing well. just in case the first doesn't work.
metallica: the call of ktulu - definitely one of the very best ass-kicking shred-metal instrumentals around.
robert cray: smoking gun - cheaters beware of the smoking gun.
robert cray: foul play - "it's wednesday night, my woman is out, once again i'm home alone, lately every wednesday night, she's late getting home" don't have to read uch into that to tell what this song is about.
joe satriani: bethoven's 5th. - ludwig would approve.
joe satriani: bethoven's 5th. - ludwig would approve (just in case the first link doesn't work.
woflgang "wolfie" amadeus mozart - eine kleine nachtmusik, a little night music.
kenny g - a simply beautiful instrumental.
the clash - rock the casbah - a terrific punk tune by a terrific punk band. sort of a statement on the situation in the middle east when tensions, as they are presently, were high. when will these people learn?
darude: sandstorm - ok, it's old-school sounding techno, but what a song to get the blood pumping.
lisa loeb: stay - even nerds need love. terrific song by a sensitive woman.
metallica: enter sandman - one of the great songs from the last decent album metallica made.
still loving you - a powerful love ballad sung by klaus meine, herman rarebell, rudolph schenker and francis buccholz. it's a timeless, poweful tribute to love and loss.
vince gill - i still believe in you - a tune the mr amy grant. beautifully sung song of forgiving.
