All those long years of Fraggle Rock movie rumors have finally amounted to something. The Jim Henson Company has actually hired someone to write a script. It's Ahmet Zappa.
When I think Zappa I think weed and let's face it, the Fraggles have to have been invented while Jim Henson was high. So maybe he's perfect. From what Variety says, it sounds like Ahmet's on the right track. The movie's supposed to follow our favorite Fraggle characters from the 80s HBO children's show on an adventure in outer space (their name for our world). Fraggles in spaaaccccee!!! Perfect.
As a writer, Ahmet doesn't have a lot of experience, so it'd be interesting to hear what prompted the Henson company to hire him. Did he have a pitch? A crazy idea? Or did Fraggles and Ahmet Zappa just fit together in someone's head so they went out and got him?
He'll have his work cut out for him turning a half-hour, fairly thin kids show that barely anyone remembers into a legitimate big screen adventure.
