Yellow Light
Size: Large, Medium, Small Wed Jul 23, 08 11:02 PM | Category: Release Notes
2

Today I noticed that I have te yellow light again in the bottem rigt of my Bitcomet and the only peer connections I have are local. I have taken the listening port for my router and opened that port on my router and opened both the port and set Bitcomet to be allowed. I have recently changed my ISP so I don't really know if they are the issue or not because I don't remember if I had a yellow light before or not.

If any information can help, I am using Bitcomet 1.03, my OS is Vista Home Premium, my router is Linksys WRT54GS, my firewall is Trend Micro Internet Security, and my new ISP is Windstream. If any additional information is needed, just tell me and I will try to provide it.

Ive already tried using a few of the guides on here, wih no luck. I looked through that stff and it wasnt very helpful. The whole thing was a bit outdated, which is also not helpful.

Hi,

.

The "yellow light" is somewhat like your indicator light in your car - sometimes it'll work, other times it will work inside your car, even if the bulb is burnt out. In other words, it's not all that reliable.

.

Your best bet is to test your listen port here--> http://www.canyouseeme.org/

.

Any result other than "Success", signifies that your port is being blocked. If the test result tells you that the port is open, then just ignore (it's safe to do so) the famous Yellow Light.

.

If, however, your listen port is blocked, you have at least one firewall blocking your listen port. That might or might not include the firewall on your router. Forwarding the port there will only take care of the router's firewall. You still have to find and configure any others you may have or that your provider may have you behind.

.

To play "find the firewall", use Task Manager to show you the list of running processes, and use Google to ID the filenames, figure out what they are, what they do, and whether you want them running or not.

Thanks for the website, I checked it out and it said my port was blocked. When you say "find the firewall" are you talking about possible other firewalls that might be running on my system? because I know my current firewall is the Trend Micro Internet Security one, and I opened both my listen port and Bitcomet the program in it, and I have already opened my listen port on my router. My current listen port is in the range that I have seen recommended, which is 49152 and 65534, but if you have any suggestions on if I should change my listen port number and what I should change it to, I would very much appreciate it.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm referring to (one that you may not be aware of).

.

It sounds as though you still have a firewall blocking the port. Firewalls are like gates, and only one of them has to be closed to block the path, no matter how the others are set. You need to set all of them to open and make sure that they are open, on your listen port.

.

To test your router's firewall rule, try taking it out of the loop and reconnecting directly to the modem. You'll need to go back to a dynamic IP for this test. If things work now, then your router settings were not correct. If things still don't work, then you have a firewall still blocking the port, which you have to find and configure if you can.

.

It may be a firewall that your ISP has you behind, or it may be a software firewall that you don't know about. You'll have to find it and fix it.

.

PS - I am assuming you have set your computer's IP address statically, right? As far as which port... it doesn't matter at all... toss a coin, throw darts, pick any one that tickles your fancy.

I had to enable Windows firewall and set it to allow BitComet to pass to get my green light ...TRODE

Well I am pretty sure I have set my router right, because I have messed with it so many times, many more then I would have liked to. I dont know about having any other firewalls on my computer, but in a little bit ill start checking through stuff and seeing about it. Even though I am pretty sure that I set it right, I will probably try to take out my router, but I dont really have an opportunity to do so right now. Right now, I just think my new ISP has its own annoying firewall, because that just seems like the most likely thing since I have opened up everything else.

And yeah, I do have a static IP for my computer =D

after weeks of fighting the "yellow light" problem, I was able to solve it on my setup. Belkin 8231-4 router and Westell 6100 modem.

The problem was my computer was behind a double "NAT" If you have both a router and modem then you may also have a double NAT. The soulution for me was to setup the modem as a bridge network instead of the default setting.

next add ports to router client server (on belkin)

I bought the PFconfig program but it was a waste of money. (trying to get a refund now!)

good luck

Thank you for the info. Again, right now I have just returned from a very stressful and tiring trip, so I will check that stuff out probably tommorow when I'm feeling less tired. I had thought that it might be my new ISP or the maybe the new modem, but I wasnt entirely sure so I was trying everything else also.

Ok I got a little bored and decided to start doing something today. I have been trying to look up some information, but have not been very successful. My modem is a speedstream 4200, which was given to me when I changed my ISP. I figured out how to get into the modem itself, and it seems that it can also be used as a router and it has a firewall in it, but it was off so I dont really know what to do. I also tried looking up how to setup the modem as a bridge network, but I havent really found too much that was helpful. I found that my modem can be set to bridge only mode, but it doesnt give any informtion on how to do it. If you could possibly give me some information on how to set it as bridged mode, I would be very grateful.
