Bryan Singer just can’t quit the comic book adaptations—maybe it’s all the Comic Con frenzy in the air. Just yesterday he announced that he would be producing an adaptation of the upcoming comic book Capeshooters, and now he’s tackling another one, Freedom Formula. It sounds a little like a hybrid between Iron Man and Speed Racer, with maybe a touch of Transformers in it. In other words, instant hit—as long as the Wachowskis don’t somehow get their hands on it.
Comic Con attendees can actually get an early look at the story, since Variety reports that Radical Publishing will be on hand to present the comic, which will be published in August. It’s described as a futuristic version of Top Gun, in which pilots don’t fly jets but wear tough exoskeleton suits that resemble Tony Stark’s getup just a wee bit. One particular racer, who has been genetically engineered, learns that he comes from a bloodline that has the power to change the world.
It sounds like pretty typical comic book stuff, but the mash-up of so many different cultural elements could turn out to be really interesting. We’ll probably have a better idea of what we’re looking at once the Comic Con buzz dies down and people have a chance to talk about, you know, actual comics.
