AL-WAKEEL
The Guardian
The Trustee

And when My servants question thee concerning Me, then surely I am nigh. I answer the prayer of the suppliant when he crieth unto Me. So let them hear My call and let them trust in Me, in order that they may be led aright. (Al-Baqara,  2.186)

Man by his very nature needs trust and security. When there is trust and security he blossoms morally and progresses materially. When he feels cornered or threatened his animalistic instincts come into play. This is basic to man’s nature. Each of us often faces calamities, losses and threats. Knowing that there is someone he can call out to grants him patience and ability to bear his losses. Allah promises to be there for him in these times of need and to resolve his difficulties. When he knows that there is a higher authority he can turn to and in whom can place his trust, he feels safe and does not act in a selfish and self defensive manner.

Say: “Nothing can happen to us except what Allah has ordained for us. He is Our Master. It is in Allah that the believers should put their trust.” (Surat at-Tawba, 9:51)

Those who submit themselves completely to Allah and do good have grasped the Firmest Handhold. The end result of all affairs is with Allah. (Surah Luqman, 31:22)

Allah is the best disposer of all affairs. When we place our trust in Allah and hold faith in our hearts that He will always do what is best for us, we are able to see good in every thing that happens to us. Often events are seen as a disaster by worldly standards. However in the long run we realize their material or spiritual benefits.

Those to whom people said: “The people have gathered against you, so fear them.” But that merely increased their faith, and they said: “Allah is enough for us and the Best of Guardians.” (Surah Al ‘Imran, 3:173)

We are constantly being tested of our faith in the Almighty whether we know it or not. Putting our trust in Allah helps us do better in these trials. Allah is so merciful that when we fail, He grants us more chances to pass. We are not given just one chance but many chances. If we are aware of these tests we will try to pass the next time. But if we are unaware then we keep making the same mistake again and again. We are tested greed, honesty, lust, etc. if we know that Allah is our Guardian we are able to overcome these weaknesses and become stronger in religion.
Lord of the East and West—there is no deity but Him—so take Him as your Guardian. (Surat al-Muzzammil, 73:9)

Taking Allah as a Guardian results in victory and those that stand in opposition to Allah are doomed.
So they returned with blessings and bounty from Allah, and no evil touched them. They pursued the pleasure of Allah. Allah’s favor is indeed immense. (Surah Al ‘Imran, 3:174)

They have the word “obedience” on their tongues, but when they leave your presence, a group of them spend the night plotting to do other than what you say. Allah is recording their nocturnal plotting. So let them be and put your trust in Allah. Allah suffices as a Guardian. (Surat an-Nisa’, 4:81)

Al-Wakeel
hasbe allahu nemal wakeel: Allah is sufficient for me, the best disposer of all affairs. This dua is powerful for court and arbitration cases or any other matters where we find ourselves helpless or at the mercy of others. When others have authority in matters where our interests our involved, instead of trying to influence them, we seek Allah’s intervention in order that the best outcome may be reached.

This prayer is especially powerful on Thursdays. Can be combined with hasbe allahu nemal wakeel, nemal maula, nemal naseer : Allah is sufficient for me, the best disposer of all affairs, what an excellent maula and an excellent helper.

Wakafabillahi wakeela: I place my trust only with Allah. This is another powerful prayer that we can use while dealing with authority or superiors if we will that he person concerned is being unjust or tyrannical.
