Bit Comet has taken over puter downloading, how do I stop it

Whenever I get something in my email or other area's and need to download it, I click the open button to start the download and a dialog box pop's up asking me if I want to allow or don't allow Bit Comet to download the file. I click don't allow and it just shuts off the download. HOW DO I STOP BIT COMET FROM DOING THAT SO JUST MY INTERNET EXPLORER WILL DO THE DOWNLOAD????????
